The City of West Kelowna has announced that YMCA of Southern Interior BC has been selected as the future operator of Johnson Bentley Memorial Aquatic Centre (JBMAC), effective January 1, 2027.

Active Living Enterprises, which has operated the facility for nearly 30 years, advised the City that it would not seek another operating term.

For Westside Thunder swimmers, there are no immediate changes to our practices or regular club activities as a result of this announcement. The City has indicated that it will remain business as usual while transition planning takes place.

At this time, no decisions have been announced regarding changes to facility hours or services. The YMCA has stated that its focus will be on maintaining continuity for facility users while working with the City, current operator, staff and community groups through the transition.

The City has also confirmed that:

• Johnson Bentley Memorial Aquatic Centre is not being renamed
• The facility is not currently being replaced
• Any future changes to programs, services or operating hours will be communicated in advance

Westside Thunder will share any updates that directly affect our practice schedule or members as more information becomes available.
